Chongshol Dolma, originally from North-Eastern Tibet (Amdo area), is a new voice in the contemporary Tibetan music. Her single "Out of the Himalaya" became quickly famous not only in Tibet and China, but also internationally. Although this song is in Mandarin and not in Tibetan, one can see a lot of traditional Tibetan elements in the clip: the khata, the prayer wheel, prayer flags, chortens (stupas), traditional clothing and important Tibetan pilgrimage places.
An interesting detail: the image of the Potala Palace shown in the clip is from the 1940's, before the Chinese occupation.

I apologise to both of you, I have a crazy week this week (very busy).
About Chongshol Dolma - like all the "national minorities" in China, she cannot reach a large audience unless she sings in the China's national language - Mandarin. It's like people from around the world who sing in English, even though their native language is not English. She also has Tibetan songs (you can do a search on youtube after her name) and I'm planning to add some links to these in the future. There is plenty of great stuff on the web about a lot of less known cultures. I'm planning to focus on Tibetans, Ainu and Hutsuls (I belong myself to the last category), but will try to add interesting posts about other people. I hope to come with a nice post this weekend.

Gebeleizis: So you're a Hutsul! I am Puerto Rican, but I lived for many years in Upstate New York. My oldest daughter, who is 29,and half Polish, is still there. Her husband is of Ukrainian descent, and when they were still in high school, she and he worked at the Ukrainian National Estate. One of her jobs was to be the "Hutsul Girl"; she would dress up in a traditional Ukrainian costume, and serve bread and salt to all the guests on banquet nights! She looked fantastic in that dress, and still remembers what she had to say and do!
